digital voice recorder - audio to computer?

Post by Lucus Eques »

I would like to get my girlfriend a digital voice recorder for Christmas — she already has a nice one, but it doesn't allow her to extract the files and put them on a computer where she might edit them, save them, etc., which she had been lamenting recently (and I kept my ears open, wisely! :D )

I thought I'd start here for any leads — any of you have/know of such a device?

Many thanks! Felicia Saturnalia in advance! ;)

I bought a Hi-MD units years ago to record live music. It works great, but it uses Sony proprietary software to upload the recordings :(
You may want to check this site.

I use the Sony ICD-UX70 Recorder. It saves all files as mp3, has a USB plug builtin. With Nuance's Dragonspeak transcription once it is trained it does a fair job of transcribing to a word processor. I was a bit worried that it might require MSWord, but found it works great with OpenOffice. The recorder cost between $100 and $200 a little over a year ago.

I use it for recording sermons and lectures. I simply hit record, lay it on the lecturn and forget it. It records everything in stereo. I edit the mp3's with Audacity (free) to upload as podcasts to our church website. Never had a problem.

Thanks for the info, Lombard and Bedwere. I actually decided to go with an iPhone, since she also needs a new phone, and it's about the same price anyway.

By tangent, I just realized the other day, Lombard, that my training for the Air Force will be in San Antonio at Lackland AFB, so it's a positive sign that you helped to confirm my decision. :)
