After setup my ADSL modem as router I can't access Textkit
Hi everybody,
I'm having serious problems to access Textkit since I've set up my ADSL modem as router. Before, it was set up as bridge and I could access Textkit perfectly. So now it's impossible to me to connect to Textkit from home. Does anybody has any clue about this strange situation? I need my modem as router to be able to connect more than one computer to internet. On the other hand, I would like to be able to browse Textkit every day as I did before.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to trace the route to www.textkit.com? When you go to 'start', choose 'run' and type 'cmd'.
In the window that opens, you can type 'tracert www.textkit.com'. That would give you the route your machine takes to get to textkit and where it gets stuck.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this later at home. I'll tell you what happened.perispomenon wrote:Have you tried to trace the route to www.textkit.com? When you go to 'start', choose 'run' and type 'cmd'.

When I trace the route, I simply doesn't connect: I get the following message (my WinXP is not in English, but the message means): Impossible to solve target system's noun www.textkit.com. Any idea about what is going on? What's textkit's IP? Does anyone knoe it?
Thanks a lot.
Thanks a lot.

This is the IP address I get for textkit:
perispomenon:~ adelheid$ ping www.textkit.com
PING textkit.com (65.99.198.58): 56 data bytes
That smiley is supposed to be an 8.
I think you get a message like 'cannot resolve www.textkit.com: Unknown host'. It could mean that your DNS server has no entry for textkit, but that would be strange if you haven't changed provider.
What does 'nslookup www.textkit.com' give?
Strange also, that textkit is the only site that gives you trouble.

Hi,
When I ping www.textkit.com, I get “didn’t find host www.textkit.com?.
When I ping 65.69.198.58, I get the “all packets lost?.
Restart my modem didn’t help either.
When I nslookup www.textkit.com, I get “Impossible to find server’s name to address 192.168.254.254 : No
response from server
Serveur : ns1.velox.net.br
Address: 200.149.55.142
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Le délai de la requête sur ns1.velox.net.br est dépassé
What exactly does this mean? Any new idea to solve this problem?
Thanks a lot.

Well, my next questions would be:
Is www.textkit.com the only site you have problems with?
Did you recently change providers?
Did you recently change DNS servers?
And perhaps a solution would be to add the ip address of textkit to your hostfile, if we do not find the root cause of this problem.
That would mean adding:
65.69.198.58 www.textkit.com
to c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file

perispomenon,
Thanks for answering. Well, I don't have any (known) problem with other sites, only with textkit (but there are millions of sites out there that I haven't visited).
I did not change my provider nor my DNS server (it's automatically set up). I'll try your suggestion and will let you know what happened.
Thanks once more.

Thank you very much. It seems to work (I'm posting from home right now). The connection seems a bit slow, but it works. I'll try it a bit more to see if the connection will remain stable.perispomenon wrote:Well, my next questions would be:
