I am translating a sentence and am stuck on the word dedit.
Could someone tell me the meaning?

It's the third person singular perfect active indicative of do, whose third principal part is dedi. So, 'he/she/it gave'.

It has a great likeness in appearance to English do and did. But supposedly it is not related, Latin do going back to Indo-European do- and English do going back to the root dhe-
