Participle of esse

Does the participle praesens of praeesse indicate that the participle of esse should properly be sens and not ens?

You might be onto something because you also have "absum, abesse" with participle "absens".

Of course esse itself is defective and does not in fact have a participle but I'm assuming you know that.
