Brevi stirps quoque virilis

In LLPSI Orberg describes Aenaas and Lavinia's first children...

Brevi stirps quoque virilis ex novo matrimonio fuit, cui 'Ascanium' parentes nomen dederunt.

I'm taking it that 'virilis' is a feminine nominative singular adjective to modify the feminine noun 'stirps'.

Do I have that right. : Soon there was issue and of the male (kind)...

Yes, more or less. stirps quoque virilis fuit -- "Soon there was also male issue from the new marriage"
