Indefinite adjective quis or qui...?

Post by pmda »

...Question from Ovid:

'...At si quis vestrae deus esset originis auctor
in tam praecipiti tempore ferret opem."

But if some god should be the begetter of you
in such dangerous times he could bring you help.

- I think is what it means.

My question, however, is this.

'quis' in '...At si quis...' is an indefinite adjective. These are given by Gavin Betts as follows:

qui/quis, quae/qua, quod....etc.

What determines whether you would use 'quis...deum' or 'qui...deum'?

Betts, p.69, wrote:"In the categories of the interrogative and indefinite pronouns and adjectives there is a confusion between the forms of quis/quis, qua and qui, quae. While the first are properly pronouns, these roles are often reversed..."
I'm writing in Latin hoping for correction, and not because I'm confident in how I express myself. Latinè scribo ut ab omnibus corrigar, non quod confidenter me exprimam.
