I am looking to create a phrase.
I was looking along the lines of: Commitment to the Protection of the City.
I used some online tranlators and came up with: Credo Contego Municipium.
I know Urbs is for city but I think Municipium sounds better. Is the above translation correct?

If you mean Rome when talking of a 'city', you should say urbs. But if not, municipium is fine. You can also use ciuitas or oppidum, if you like.
What you have roughly means: I believe, I cover the town.
I'd choose something else than credo. You can use protego but it is rare, I believe.
I suggest:
fides in municipium tuendum
Literally: loyalty to the town which should be protected.
