De Capitulo XXXIV

Hi sunt res quae clarae mihi non sunt aut verificare volo:

1) Epistula Aemilii convivis recitata, "Ergo" inquit "...

Nonne 'convivis' dativus pluralis est?

2) Sextus scit se defendere, dumodo cum singulis certet.

'Singulis' ablativus est?? Distributivus?

n. singuli
v. singuli
a. singulos
g. singulorum
d. singulis
a. singulis

3) Cornelius: "Ego quoque ludis et certaminibus studeo, dummodo alios certantes spectem!"

'certantes' Participium praesentum (Nom. Acc. Pl) est?

4) Nuper spectavi comoediam Plauti de Amphitryone, duce Graecorum, cuius uxor Alcmena ab ipso Iove amabatur.

'ipso Iove' - by Jupiter himself.

5) Cornelius: "...et decimo post mense filios geminos peperit..."

'post' + abl? Cur non 'post' plus accusativus (time after)?

6) Ovidius poeta, qui ingenium mulieum tam bene noverat quam ipsae mulieres, rationem reddit hoc versu: '...

reddo, reddere = explico, explicare ?

2: singulis is just abl. after cum. "with each one"

3: it's participium praesens, not praesentum.

5: post is here an adverb. The ablative is ablative of measure.

6: rationem reddere: render an account. It can also be constructed with dare, I think.
