plurals of 1st declension Greek nouns

Post by solitario »

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.

I'm just looking at New Latin Grammar, and I noticed that it does not give the plural forms of the Greek nouns. Why not? Do they not come up often?

Right now, I'm most interested in Persēs (Persian). Can anyone tell me the plurals?

Persēs (-a)
Persae
Persae
Persēn (-am)
Persē (-ā)
Persa

MVLTAS GRATIAS VALETEQVE BENE.

I'm not sure how Latin would handle that, but to tell you the truth, I have seen Persa many times and never seen Perses. I am almost sure that they would use the Latin plurals rather than the Greek, but I can't say that with a great deal of authority.

A&G can :). See 44a: "the plural, when it occurs, is regular".
