Help Please

Post by Ioan Dafydd »

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone recognise the following passages?

Di charum servate Caput.

Care puer, mea sera and sola voluptas,
Ante annos, animunque gerens curamque virilem

They were written from memory by a mid-eighteenth-century politican John Campbell.
Thanks

John

Well, the
'Ante annos, animunque gerens curamque virilem'
Looks to be Virgil, from the Nisus et Euryalus story in book 9 of the Aeneid.
The complete Line/sentence is
nec non et pulcher Iulus, ante annos animumque gerens curamque virilem, lines 310-311
'And handsome Iulus was also there, bearing a mind and manly concern beyond his years'

Care puer, mea sera and sola voluptas
is from the Aeneid as well, book 8, line 581

Not sure about the other one...
The only thing we can guarantee when communicating via the internet is that we will be almost completely misunderstood, and likely cause great offence in doing so. Throw in an attempt at humour and you insure a lifelong enemy will be made.
