Then he was taken before Caiphas, the high priest, who asked him: “I adjure thee by the living God to tell us if thou art the Christ, the Son of God”
Then Jesus answered: “Thou hast said it, I am”
Then the high priest rent his garment, saying: “ He has blasphemed! What need have we more witnesses?”

Deinde ductus est ad Caipham principem sacerdotum, qui ait illi: Adjuro te per Deum vivum, ut dicas nobis si tu es Christus Filius Dei.
Dicit illi Jesus: Tu dixisti, ego sum.
Tunc princeps sacerdotum scidit vestimenta sua, dicens: Blasphemavit: quid adhuc egemus testibus?

Εἶτ' ἀπήχθη πρὸς Καϊάφαν τὸν ἀρχιερέα, ὅστις εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ἐξορκίζω σε κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος, ἵνα ἡμῖν εἴπῃς εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ.
Λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· σὺ εἶπας, ἐγώ εἰμι.
Τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ λέγων· ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων;

But only the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, has the power to condemn a man to death!

Sed tantum Romano præsidi, Pontio Pilato, licet interficere aliquem.

Ἀλλὰ μόνον τῷ Ῥωμαίῳ ἡγεμόνι, τῷ Ποντίῳ Πιλάτῳ, ἔξεστιν ἀποκτεῖναί τινα.

That is true and for a while it seemed that Pilate would do nothing because he said he found no evidence against him.
First Pilate had him scourged. And then he offered to free either Jesus, or Barabbas, the
murderer.

Verum est et parumper videbatur Pilatus nihil agere, dicens se nullam invenire in eo causam.
Primum Pilatus flagellavit eum. Deinde autem optionem dedit aut dimittendi Jesum aut
Barabbam homicidam.

Ἀλήθεια ἔχει καὶ μικρὸν ὅσον ἐδόκουν ὁ Πιλᾶτος οὐδὲν πράσσειν, λέγων ὅτι οὐδεμίαν εὑρίσκει ἐν αὐτῷ αἰτίαν.
Πρῶτον μὲν ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐμαστίγωσεν αὐτόν. Ἔπειτα δὲ τὴν αἵρεσιν ἔδωκεν ἢ ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἢ Βαραββᾶν τὸν φονέα.

And the crowd chose Barabbas.

Et turba elegit Barabbam.

Καὶ ὁ ὅχλος εἵλετο τὸν Βαραββᾶν.

Why could I not have been there to help him!

Quid non potui adesse ut subvenirem ei?

Τί ἀδύνατος ἦν παρεῖναι ὡς βοηθήσων αὐτῷ;

Finally the chief priest said to Pilate: “If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar’s friend”

Denique dixit princeps sacerdotum Pilato: Si hunc dimittis, non es amicus Cæsaris.

Καὶ τέλος εἶπεν ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς τῷ Πιλάτῳ· ἐὰν τοῦτον ἀπολύσῃς, οὐκ εἶ φίλος τοῦ Καίσαρος.

So Pilate washed his hands saying: “I am free of the blood of this just man”. And the scum of the city urged on by the politicians, shouted: crucify him! Crucify him!

Pilatus itaque lavit manus, dicens: Ιnnocens ego sum a sanguine justi hujus. Purgamenta autem civitatis, a senioribus persuasa, clamaverunt: crucifige eum! Crucifige eum!

Ὁ οὖν Πιλᾶτος ἀπενίψατο τὰς χεῖρας, λέγων· ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ δικαίου τούτου. Τα δὲ περικαθάρματα τῆς πόλεως, τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις πεισθέντα, ἔκραξε· σταύρωσον αὐτόν. Σταύρωσον αὐτόν.

I know a place where they must pass. Hurry, Malluch, it may not be too late for us to save him!

Scio qua transeundum est eis. Propera, o Maloch, non enim seriores fuerimus ut servemus eum.

Οἶδα ὅπη διαβατέον ἐστὶν αὐτοῖς. Σπεῦδε, ὦ Μαλώχ, οὐ γὰρ ὕστεροι εἶμεν ἂν σῶσαι αὐτόν.
