Ben-Hur’s curiosity is aroused as the ship sails into the harbor at Antioch.

Navi in portum Antiochea navigante, curiosus fit Benhur.

Τῆς νεὼς εἰς τὸν ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ λιμένα πλεούσης, περίεργος γίγνεται ὁ Βενώρ.

Captain, whose are those vessels that fly the bright yellow pennant?

Navicularie, cujus sunt illa navigia quæ habent vexillum luteum?

Ναύκληρε, τίνος ἐστὶν ἐκεῖνα τὰ πλοῖα τὰ ἔχοντα ἱστίον μήλινον;

They belong to Simonides a fabulously rich merchant. He bears a Greek name although he is a Jew and was once a slave of the ancient family of Hur

Simonidæ sunt, ditissimi mercatoris. Qui nomen quidem fert Græcum, Judæus autem est, libertus antiquæ domus Hur.

Σιμωνίδου ἐστίν, τοῦ πλουσιωτάτου ἐμπόρου. Ὄνομα μὲν Ἑλληνικόν ἐστιν αὐτῷ, ὃς δ' Ἰουδαῖός ἐστιν, ἀπελεύθερος τοῦ παλαιοῦ οἴκου Ὢρ ὤν.

What? Can such be true? Do slaves now rise to rival the fortunes of their masters?

Quid dicis? Numquid nunc servi ita augentur ut pares dominis suis in opibus sint?

Τί λέγεις; Ἆρα μὴ νῦν οἱ δοῦλοι οὕτως αὐξάνονται ὥστε ὅμοιοι τοῖς ἑαυτῶν δεσπόταις πρὸς τὰ χρήματα εἶναι;

Soon after his master died, the family disappeared because the young son was caught in an attempt to murder the Roman governor.

Mortuo domino, mox evanuit familia, quoniam juvenis filius apprehensus est conans Romanum præsidem interficere.

Τοῦ κυριοῦ ἀποθάνοντος, εὐθὺς ἀφανὴς ἐγένετο ὁ οἶκος, ὅτι ὁ νέος υἱὸς συνελήφθη πειρώμενος τὸν Ῥωμαῖον ἡγεμόνα ἀποκτεῖναι.

But in such a case, the Romans must have seized all the family’s wealth and property.

Sed rebus sic stantibus, necesse fuit Romanos omnia domus bona publicare.

Ἀλλὰ τούτων οὕτως ἐχόντων, ἀνάγκη ἦν τοὺς Ῥωμαίους πάντα τοῦ οἴκου χρήματα δημεῦσαι.

Simonides is a clever man. He was agent for the Hurs here in Antioch and hid many ships and cargoes from the Romans. Twice they tortured him but could learn nothing.

Simonides callidus est. Qui, cum Huritarum procurator Antiochea esset, a Romanis multas naves oneraque abscondebat. Bis eum torserunt, nihil autem didicerunt.

Ὁ Σιμωνίδης δεῖνός ἐστιν. Ὁ δὲ, ἐπίτροπος τῶν Ὢρ ἐν τῇ Ἀντιοχείᾳ ὤν, ἀπὸ τῶν Ῥωμαίων πολλὰς ναῦς τε καὶ φορτία ἀπέκρυπτεν. Δὶς ἐβασάνισαν αὐτόν, οὐδὲν δὲ ἐπύθοντο.

Yea, and ‘tis said Simonides verily has the golden touch. In eight years he has doubled and redoubled his fortune many times.

Dicitur vero omnia quæ Simonidæ apponuntur aurea fieri. Nam per octo annos sæpe duplicavit bona.

Λέγεται δὴ ἅπαντα τῷ Σιμωνίδῃ παρατιθέμενα χρυσᾶ γίγνεσθαι. Διὰ γὰρ ὀκτὼ ἔτη πολλάκις ἐδιπλασίασε τὰ χρήματα.

An astounding tale! I thank you for the telling, captain!

Miram fabulam! Gratias ago tibi quia narrasti, navicularie!

Θαυμαστὸς ὁ μῦθος. Χάριν ἔχω σοι ὅτι διήγησαι, ναύκληρε.

I must make haste ashore to seek out Simonides. He may still be loyal and have guarded all this wealth for me. And he will know the fate of my mother and sister!

Opus est me ad terram festinare ad Simonidam quærendum. Qui enim adhuc fidelis fortasse est ita ut custodierit ista bona pro me. Et utique novit quid acciderit meæ matri sororique.

Χρή με εἰς τὴν γῆν σπεύδειν ζητήσων τὸν Σιμωνίδην. Οὗτος γὰρ ἔτι πιστὸς ἴσως ἐστὶν ὥστε φυλάσσειν ταῦτα τὰ χρήματα ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ. Καὶ δήπου οἶδε τὰ γενόμενα τῇ τε μητρί μου καὶ τῇ ἀδελφῇ.

Some of yr Lat and Gk is rather late. Phps this is what you want.
