I would probably call it a legend woven around a true story.

You are right that some of the best translations of classical literature have been done by one person, but people do not view these as divinely inspired, so individual interpretation is more acceptable within them. In addition, most of the translations of which you speak are not dynamic equivalence translations, with which it is much more difficult to stay true to the original text. One man setting out to produce a literally equivalent translation of something is much more logical and feasible than one man setting out to translate something dynamically. If committees are requisite for anything, they are requisite for dynamic translations.

Well touche then! You made a couple of outstanding points. True, most classical translations are very literal (for the most part), and of course they aren't inspired on the same level Christians consider the bible.

I will concede victory to you on the matter. Plus, like I said before, I'm not really a big fan of the Message anyhow. I would strongly recommend you pick up a copy of Philips though. This has been an enjoyable and stimulating thread, but I'm afraid I've run out of steam for the time being.

I have never heard of that translation before, but I will definitely use it as a reference in addition to the NASB.

Re: THE LITERAL TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE,

How can anyone believe that God who made ALL THINGS
and knows ALL THINGS would allow a false translation
of Himself? Never.

He is the Word. JOHN 1:1

The original English translation which is the King James Version
never has to be altered or revised because God led
and inspired those scholars to correctly translate His Word.
God knows His Word cannot have errors in it.
The translation of the KJV is the only true translation.

There is no excuse for anyone not to understand the KJV if they
only speak to the Author (God) about IT.

This so-called "MESSAGE" translation is just a mockery of God's original Word.
