About learning Geek

So hi my name is Alex and Im from Israel and i want to start to learn Greek I think this will help me so I got some questions:
1)Those who have learn Greek do you take teachers to help you or all the information was from this site?
2)From what it would be good for me to start?
3)How long it took to you to learn the Greek (not exatly u know just approximately)

Hello and welcome Gospel I cannot help you all that much but are you interested in learning Ancient Greek in all its forms or are you more interested in a particular period? Like Koine for instance? If the second, I can only tell you that a Jewish Israeli friend of mine made heavy use of the Old Testament in both Hebrew and Greek when studying since the original (Hebrew) context was something he knew very well and the Testament was something that he read with pleasure (it does make a difference doesn't it?)

Welcome Alex. I learned Greek in university, but there are many here that have learned it simply by using the tools here at Textkit.

2)From what it would be good for me to start?

Depends on what you want to learn Greek for. If for Biblical Greek, start with something Koine, you can always pick up Classical later. I would recommend either Mounce (which has study Groups here), or Lyle Story's Greek to me (which is what I think is best, but I'm biased...that's what I learned with.

3)How long it took to you to learn the Greek (not exatly u know just approximately)

Uhhh....I'm still learning! If you mean how long will it take to reach proficieny in Greek.... It depends. Do you already read and write multiple languages?? Then it should go faster. It also helps if you are a genius and have nothing but time to devote to learning Greek But I've seen some pretty dopey people learn Greek (ok, maybe not really dopey). More than anything else, it takes time, if you have the time to devote to it, and you do so regulalry you can learn it.

Dear Alex,
I started learning ancient Greek when I was 13 years and spent 5 years at school every day with this language I learne to love and that I still love. It always depend on how motivated you are, why you are interested in it, the time you have and all that. To my experience, even if I ran into this site recently, I think that starting with Pharr Homeric Greek would be best for you. I find that method very useful for beginners... You could even start by yourself and then joiun the group which is going to be built within January-February.
