I have a first edition of Mounce's BBG (left over from my seminary days). I see that it's up to third edition now on Amazon. Is it worth the $31 to upgrade, now that I'm getting back into Greek again?

No. Since you already own a Mounce, spend your money on another text book.
I am writing in Ancient Greek not because I know Greek well, but because I hope that it will improve my fluency in reading. I got the idea for this from Adrianus over on the Latin forum here at Textkit.
