Are you reading Homeric Greek? Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced Homerist, here you can meet kindred spirits. Besides Homer, use this board for all things early Greek poetry.

Toward a catalogue of ships in Linear B

Post by PJK »

I'm looking for feedback on a project to take Linear B beyond the material evidence. Before extending the exercise to include epitaphs and formulaic phrases I'm asking myself is this wasted effort? The premise is that if Linear B is Greek it can be extended to write poetry and history. All that's needed is more and better words.

I've just read Rob Wiseman's paper 'A Mycenaean Iliad' and am in awe of the exquisite analysis and his knowledge of PIE, a subject of which I am totally ignorant.
Who knows truly whence this emanation has arisen?
Only God knows or maybe s/he does not.
