Scanning line 1.9

Post by PeterD »

Hi,

I am not sure if I have scanned the following verse -- line 1.9 -- correctly:

λητοῦς καὶ διὸς υἱός. ὁ γὰρ βασιλῆι χολωθεὶς

- - | - u u | - u u | - u u | - u u | - -

I am doubtful about the third foot because of the pause in the verse.

Thanks,

~PeterD
Fanatical ranting is not just fine because it's eloquent. What if I ranted for the extermination of a people in an eloquent manner, would that make it fine? Rather, ranting, be it fanatical or otherwise, is fine if what is said is true and just. ---PeterD, in reply to IreneY and Annis

The caesura in the third foot is completely normal. But it isn't strong enough to distort the meter, so your scanning is correct.
