Any study groups for White's First Greek book starting?

Hi all,

I am new to this site and am interested in the idea of a study group. I am just now downloading White's First Greek book and am wondering if there may be any interest in a study group for Greek newbies like myself. I would love an opportunity to learn with others on the same level as myself to share support and insight. Also to vent when needed.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hello Shawn:

In case there's nothing new starting on the Textkit Forum, you might also want to know about the GreekStudy list on vlists:

http://www.quasillum.com/greek/greekstudy.html

There are several concurrent self-study groups (both Attic and Koine). I've been facilitating a very successful group using the JWW text (we're up to Lesson LIII and still have seven or eight active participants each week). This group's webpage is here:

http://www.geocities.com/firstgreekbook/

Best of luck!

Berel

If there's enough interest we'll be happy to set up a study group list. You might want to set up a poll (like making a new post, but set the poll information) in the main board to catch more people who might have interest.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. The poll is up at the main Learn Greek forum.

Berel, I will check out those sites.

Best wishes,

Hello,
My name is Loretta Sexton. I have an interest in learning Greek. Not sure how to sign up for one of these sessions. From the posts, it looks like you are going to start a group. If someone could give me a lesson on how this class works, that would be great.

Thanks,
Loretta

Hi Loretta,

Happy you're interested. I have a poll up in the Learning Greek forum. Just go there and it will answer most of your questions (I hope). The topic is listed as [Poll] Study group for John Williams White's First Greek Book.
And please feel free to vote!

Hi Shawn,

I am interested in the study group. I've recently started working with White's book, and I'm on Lesson 5. I will sign the poll.

Hi All,

The first lesson is due one week from tomorrow. I see 5 people signed up.

If you intend to join the white-a study group, please use Will's post above to sign up.

You will also need some time to get familiar with the study group software.

Thanks.

Cordially,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I am new to this group and new to the group study thing. I signed up for the “White, session A” group study. What other software will I need to get used to? And where can I find information on how to use it?

Thank you

Hi anakainosis, and welcome to Textkit!

Please see http://textkit.com/mailman/private/whit ... 00000.html

This post describes how to get started with 'GAGLS', the lesson posting software that we use.

You won't be able to try out GAGLS until I get home this evening and set up a userid/pwd for you.

If you have a preference for userid, please e-mail it to me ASAP.
I will e-mail you back when your userid/pwd are set up.

Cordially,

Paul

To all members of white-a:

Since I last checked we've added 6 or 7 new members. I need to set up GAGLS userids/passwords for all members.

If you have a preference for your userid, please e-mail it to me NOW.

I will e-mail you after your GAGLS userid/pwd is set up. Then please see page referenced in my previous post. It is important that you get familiar with GAGLS before we start posting lessons.

Thank you.

Cordially,

Paul

So...What's the scoop, or as a one of the guys at work says; What's the dilly Joe?
Are we going to comment on each other's work with the guides kind of looking over our shoulders to keep us from going to far of base, or are the guides planning to comment on every lesson?

I just hit "send" on mail about that. :)

Paul and I will be trading correction duties. No Eng->Greek, though.

But we can still enter our English to Greek answers, right? So we can compare our answers with eachother and discuss any questions we have about them?

Maybe if you can find people who are interested in joining AND people who are able and willing to be guides.
I think that the ones who have been guides up till now are overloaded.
