Plutarch, Apophthegmata Laconica,
King Leonidas' quotes
my trial:
When somebody was saying, `O Leonidas, are you thus trying to risk against the many with the little?', he said, 'if you expected me to believe in the great number, the whole Greece is not sufficient; for it(Greece) is just a small portion of their great number; but if (if you expected me to believe in) )ταῖς ἀφεταῖς, this number is good enough.'
when another one was saying the same thing, he said 'and actually I'm leading enough number as would die'
Here I'm not sure about ταῖς ἀφεταῖς,
ἀφέτης (artilleryman) does not seem to have the proper accent here. And a wrong gender.
ἄφετος (freedman) seems to have wrong accent, wrong gender, and wrong form.
Diogenes couldn't parse it.
Perseus does not have this work of Plutarch's.
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
