From a Latin Enthusiast...

Post by Brent2009 »

Oddly enough... after two years of Latin in High School, I have actually became increasingly helpless to marvel at Greek writing... and I was wanting someones opinion...

I enjoy latin alot, its helped me alot through school from parsing words etc. but I have not acted on pursuing Greek for two reasons.

1) I AM still taking a latin course, and I'm just afraid I may get a little ahead of myself if study both at the same time.

2) I'm not exactly sure what i would be getting myself into.

Any advice?

Learn Latin well, such as through LINGVA LATINA by Oerberg. Then you'll be well prepared for Greek. I feel I was.

You'll have to decide this one yourself. If you have the time to do both with attention, I see no reason not to study both. If you have many demands on your time, you should probably solidify your grounding in Latin before taking up Greek.
2) I'm not exactly sure what i would be getting myself into.
More of the same, and then some. :) One fewer case, but one more number (dual), six instead of four principal parts, an entire extra mood, all sorts of funky phonetic processes which mask the clarity of noun and verb forms, even more participles, and, of course, magnificent literature.

Well, I think I'm going to learn it =], I have more time than I really know what to do with, but one more question, where to start?
