Damon: A Manual of Greek Iambic Composition

Post by carls »

This book seems to be available on Google books, but not to me.

Would someone from the US (or anywhere else) please help me to obtain the .pdf files for this book?
I would be most grateful.

The title is:
Damon: A Manual of Greek Iambic Composition, by Williams and Rouse.

Thanks,
Carl

Here's a link to what I can download:

Damon; or The art of Greek iambic making

That is, I can get the text but the key itself doesn't seem to be available. Also, it looks like a terrible scan (with more than half the text cut off of many of the odd-numbered pages) Unfortunately, I don't see any other editions of scans available. If you cannot download from that page, send me a pm (click on the 'pm' bottom just below my post) with your email address and I will send it.

I also know of two similar-sounding composition books that do have keys:

Kynaston, H. -- Exercises in the composition of Greek iambic verse (1879)

As well as Answer key for above

Another is Squire, E. -- Exercises for Greek verse 1833

The key for that one is in the same pdf, appearing after the main text.
The lists:
G'Oogle and the Internet Pharrchive - 1100 or so free Latin and Greek books.
DownLOEBables - Free books from the Loeb Classical Library

Just in case it interests you, there is a good article by Chad on writing iambics, and a great document on his website (freewebs dot com / mhninaeide) with answers and explanations for Sidgwick's and Kynaston's Greek Verse Comp book, and some summaries of useful information.

I don't know if you have already seen it or not, but Sidgwick's manual to Greek verse composition can also be found on google books.
