facsimiles of iliad manuscripts?

Post by gnomonstyle »

Would anyone happen to know how I might be able to get a facsimile (or even a modern-font edition, e.g., Villoison) of the Venetus or Laurentianus manuscripts of the Iliad? Book form would be ideal, but digital would work. I already know about the website with digital images of Venetus A (at http://www.stoa.org), but the images are nearly impossible to read, and even if they were legible it would take major effort to print out.

Oh, I think not, Bert.
The encoded texts are available at a few websites and can be easily searchable. But what gnomonstyle wants is a scanned or phtographed "manuscript". And it is a rare resource online. What a pity when some religious materials are available en masse.

Actually, I'd even be fine with an encoded version (but only Venetus A , B, etc.; not one of the modern editions online).

We'll see how far I get with this, but I did request a copy of Comparetti's 1901 facsimile of Venetus A via interlibrary loan. If by chance I get a hold of it, I may be inspired to do some scanning myself. :)
