I've just finished my first semester of Greek, so now I'm studying the imperfect and aorist in more detail than I had time for during the semester.
The augment is added to the base verb, but can I assume that all verbs that begin with e.g. ἀν or ἀπ have prefixes? I can't think of any examples, but I know that in other languages at least there are words that begin the same way as prefixed words, which aren't of the etymology prefix + base word. If there are cases like that, how can I know the difference?
