Textkit Tutorial - Notes on the Aorist Morphology
This thread was created to discuss the Textkit Tutorial
Notes on the Aorist Morphology by William Annis

Introduction:
Traditional grammars of classical Greek enumerate two forms of the aorist. For the beginner this terminology is extremely misleading: the second aorist contains two distinct conjugations. This article covers the formation of all types of aorist, with special attention on the athematic second aorist conjugation which few verbs take, but several of them happen to be common.

The complete article can be found here:
http://www.textkit.com/tutorials/200309 ... 2&tid=2

My copy of the new abbreviated Oxford Grammar of Classical Greek just arrived, and I am vindicated in this. There's a special section for what the author calls "root aorists."

bingley wrote:
Thanks William, that was helpful in bringing together various threads of things I sort of knew but could never put together systematically.

Yes. It always happens! I think everything is perfect, make one last quick edit for sense, and introduce 3 horrible errors into a single paragraph. Jeff should already have my fixes.

--
wm
One misprint in the section The Second Aorists:

Just keep in mind that the imperfect is conjugated use thing present stem but second aorists have a different stem form.

Amend use thing to using the?
