I need a word...

how does one express in Greek the idea of "to exchange", meaning 'I give you and you give me at the same time; I give you something and you pay off with something'.

I guess it should be some prefixal derivative of "ameibesthai" or "allattein" or "didonai", but I can't figure it out right now... :(

The dictionary I have on hand lists [face=SPIonic]a)ntalla/ssomai[/face] and [face=SPIonic]a)mei/bomai[/face], although the latter seems to mean something more like "respond" or "reply". So yeah, good guess.

[face=SPIonic]ou)/ soi e)ne/tuxon pa/lin e)n th|=    )Agora|=. a)/ra ei)=dej th\n a)po/krisi/n mou tw|=  [/face]"[face=SPIonic]xai/rete[/face][face=SPIonic];[/face] :D

Can you give a little more context? In a Homeric situation, at least, [face=spionic]a)mei/bw[/face] is exactly the word you want.

I wanna write to a friend that we should exchange some knowledge because I'm a linguist and he's a theologist and we're mutually interested in our areas.

I'd be inclined to stick with [face=spionic]a)mei/bw[/face].
