I have heard that it is ambiguous whether ἐκ τῶν βίων is to be taken with ὑπολαμβάνειν instead of ἐοίκασιν, but in my ears, this is an incredible reading. There is no strict grammatical argument against it, but I have a feeling there is something about the word order that makes it incredible. -- ?
