usage about suneimi

Post by Junya »

hi.

This is Aristotle's 'On the Soul'.
kai dia touto oute me^ aisthanomenos me^then outhen an mathoi oude xuneie^, hotan te theo^re^i, anagke^ hama phantasma ti theo^rein.
And by this reason, the person who is not perceiving anything by the sense would notice nothing nor ???, and whnever he contemplates (on the abstracted qualities or substance of sense-objects) he is at the same time seeing by the mind some phantom of sense-object (sense-object as a whole, without any part being abstracted). For, the phantoms appearing in mind is like sense-objects, albeit without matter (= spatial existence).

I am vague with the word "xuneie^".
What is it meaning here ?

The verb is probably ξυν-ίημι (see Smyth §777, 2nd aorist optative column).
