Greek eclipse literature

Postby Helikwps » Fri Dec 30, 2011 5:04 am

We have a solar eclipse coming to the western U.S. in May and I was wondering if anyone knows of any Greek-language passages I can find on the subject at Perseus. Any replies greatly appreciated thanks!

Just searching for eclipse in the search bar would produce the results you desire.
Here's the link for the results:
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/sea ... ?q=eclipse

For example, in Thucydides book 4, chapter 52:
τοῦ δ᾽ ἐπιγιγνομένου θέρους εὐθὺς τοῦ τε ἡλίου ἐκλιπές τι ἐγένετο περὶ νουμηνίαν...
In the first days of the next summer there was an eclipse of the sun at the time of new moon (1910 ed.)

Wow! Thanks Nate for the link and for showing me the English search feature on Perseus, which I'd completely missed. Plato and Plutarch and Pseudo-Plutarch fit the bill perfectly, thanks.
