Q:Hdt. 9.1.1
Μαρδόνιος δέ, ὥς οἱ ἀπονοστήσας Ἀλέξανδρος τὰ παρὰ Ἀθηναίων ἐσήμηνε, ὁρμηθεὶς ἐκ Θεσσαλίης ἦγε τὴν στρατιὴν σπουδῇ ἐπὶ τὰς Ἀθήνας.
my question is, why ὁρμηθεὶς is in the form of passive? Thanks!

In many verbs the "passive" forms have active or middle meanings and ὁρμῶ is one of those. If you look at the LSJ entry it mentions that the passive and middle forms have the same meaning but the passive is more frequent for this verb.
