I would appreciate any additional advice concerning retaining the vocabulary list in Wheelock's Latin, for I would like to inprovement my retention of the vocabulary list in Wheelock's Latin (6th edition).

1. Obviously there is the vocabulary list from textkit's website sent to your e-mail.

2. Additionally, there is the vocabulary on Wheelock's Latin website, too.

3. Flash cards and flash card programs.

4. Writing the vocabulary over and over several time.

5. ? Your input! Requested and Appreciated. ? :)

What method is the most effective in helping you retain vocabulary?

The best solution to solve the problem is using that vocabulary. Other nice way is establishing such as a relationship between the word you want to aprehend and one another from your native vocabulary. In order to "learn" the declensions the best way, I think, is know what they want to mean (after memorizing them). For example, in order to make more easier this sort of learning, try to find a relationship between a case (ex.gr., ablative) and daily-use expressions, such as: "de iure" (aproximately, I translate it to English, "by the rule of Law" or "by means of the Law"), you know "de" -in this case- must be followed by an ablative... iure, is ablative. One another: You want to memorize the word "ius/iuris",
Ignorantia iuris (genitive) neminem excusat.
(The ignorance of the laws never exempts from observe them)
This ways may be useful to you when you are aprehending new vocabulary... but I -personally- prefer construct sentences, practise with compositions, etc., because by means of this I am -really- aware of I have learnt the new words and their use.

try to do ALL of the exercises in the chapter itself, all the practice sentences in the back, and all the workbook. then, if you forget a word, look it up in the back, find out which chapter the word appears in, and skim through the vocab for that chapter (chances are you've forgotten other words from that chapter as well).

I appreciate all the input

When using the flash cards I find it helpful to also go from English to Latin (or whatever language I happen to be working with for that matter). Also reviewing the cards every so often after I have "learned" them helps. I find that I have to re-learn anywhere from 10-20% of new words if I don't use them often after a few months.

Also, when I read texts, I make flash cards of new words, but I also go back and review the texts I have read, and I find I can remember the words form their original context quite easily without recourse to the flash cards.

You might try Centaur software, which has a program called vocab drill with the Wheelock vocab. They also have a flash drill program to help with declensions and such. They are relatively cheap ($10). I found them useful when I took beginning Latin.
