On first reading I thought Livy meant twelve thousand soldiers and five cavalry even though this did not make sense; a look at the answer key revealed Livy meant twelve thousand soldiers and five THOUSAND cavalry. If Livy really had meant just five cavalry how would the sentence have been worded?
