Dative of Purpose

Post by Ianus »

I find that the xplanation in the Appendix of my WL is really kind of brief- could anyone help me with this Sentiae Antiguae from Chapter Eight:

14. Non vitae, sed scholae, discimus. (Seneca)

My fate rests in your hands!!!

Iane,

This dative just translates very standardly. Dative is to/for. 'For' is the only one that makes sense in this case.
