i just started wheelock and am pleased with my comprehension, even if it is just the first chapter.
my question is what the suffix tum means. if it is a version of first person singular or if it will be clarified later or maybe i am just missing something. it is not a big deal but maybe an informed person could clear it up for me

You mean the -tum bit at the end of amo, amare, amavi, amatum?
Hmmm... I think it's probably best to just memorise it for now. It is the perfect passive participle and means (very crudely) 'having been ---ed'. You'll learn it all in chapter 19, which I'm sure seems a long way off now...
