Which more qualities do wheelock's latin have than D'ooge, reading latin, cambridge latin course, etc.?
Why is it so widely used and lauded?

because wheelock's is a standard text on Latin

it is old and purists have issue with it, but W's does provide the basics of Latin, correct verb conjugation and load of words; those pursuing latin get snotty about the "correct" source to understand true latin as the Romans spoke it, but since the language is not spoken among any ethnic group anymore, no one exists who can ever say one source is better than another

denique: take a college course on it

I've never seen anyone use D'ooge except some people on this forum, and only because it's free I suspect.

I am closing out my 5th year of studying both Wheelocks and D'Ooge simultaneously for several reasons:
- To get varied perspectives of the same lesson
- Not to become a slave to one author
- Exercises
- D'Ooge gives me a few more grammar notes than Wheelocks
