Lesson LXX (page 172) § 400

Post by rfcompte »

Hi
I've run into a somewhat complex sentence. I've had some issues understanding it and maybe someone can give me a hand.
Helvetii cum patrum nostrorum tempore domo profecti essent, consulis exercitum in fugam dederant
What do you think about my translation?
 In the time of our fathers, the Helvetians set out from home, they (the Helvetians) had put to flight the consul's army.

Is the missing subject from the second clause in the Latin sentence the Helvetians? Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance!
