De variis formulis latinae colloquendae linguae

Postby Franmorar » Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:39 am

Franmorarius omnibus hoc foro utentibus salutem dicit multam.

What about some "formulae" of conversational Latin?
If you agree, I will write a few in this forum. Please, let me know.

Lectio Prima: Salutationes.

Good morning (afternoon, evening) = salve / ave / salvus (salva, if feminine) sis (if one person adressed); salvete / avete / salvi (salvae, if feminine) sitis (if more than one person).

To answer? Same way: salve / ave; salvete / avete. You could add: et (etiam) tu; et (etiam) vos.

Other more complex formulae:

O salve, amice exoptate (amica exoptata) (Oh, good morning, dear friend!)
Venire te salvum (salvam, if feminine) volup est (It is pleasant to see you in good health).
Salvum (salvam) te advenire gaudeo (I am glad to see you...).
Ei (eis) meis verbis salutem adscribe (adscribite) / imperti (impertite) (Give my regards to him, her, them).
Salvere illum (illam, illos, illas) jube (jubete) meo nomine (same meaning, more or less).
Salvere te (vos) jubet Franmorarius (Franmorar has sent greetings, regards to you).
Franmorarius impertit tibi (vobis) multum salutis (same meaning).

To say good bye:
Good bye, see you later, good night: Vale, multum vale, bene vale (valete).

Finis lectionis primae.

Lucius Franmorario s.d.p.

Mihi perplacet propositum tuum! His haud addere possim, sin adjuvare potero, faciam. Mihi est liber "Conversational Latin" a Johanne Traupman scriptus, necnon habemus omnes Erasmi de Latine colloquendo scripta.

Franmorarius Lucuo Equiti salutem multam.

Mihi placet quia tibi placuit.
(Excuse me, I do not remember which ones or what links, but any good browser will surely do).
Vale atque vale, o exoptate amice.
