TABULA TERTIA DECIMA

Evening, night, sleep. Vesper, nox, somnus.

The sun has set. Occidit sol. Sol ad occasum abscessit.

At sunrise. Oriente sole. Sub ortum solis.

At sunset. Occidente sole. Sub occasum solis.

At the time of the first sleep, at dark night. Nocte concubia.

It’s getting to be evening. It approaches evening. Twilight is coming on. Advesperascit. Declinat (inclinat) ad vesperum dies.

It’s getting dark. Nox appetit, instat.

Nights are shorter in Summer than in Winter. Noctes contractiores sunt aestate quam hieme.

It’s new moon. Lunam ad initium recurrit.

To study until it’s very dark in night-time. Ad multam noctem studere.

To stay awake through nights. Pervigilat noctes totas. Noctes insomnes ducit.

He left at (dark) night. In noctem se conjecit. Multa de nocte profectus est.

Are you all in bed? Decubueruntne omnes? Ἦ πάντες κατακλίνονται;

Let’s go to bed. Cubitum discedamus. Quieti nos tradamus.

I fell asleep. Me complexus est somnus.

He was overcome by sleep. Oppresit eum somnus.

You must not fall asleep. Tibi dormitandum non est.

To wake somebody up. Excitare e lecto.

Wake up, it’s (late) morning. Surge, dies est (diei multum jam est).

He is sleeping like a log. Securus dormit.

This makes one feel sleepy. Hoc somnum inducit (facit, concliliat, excitat).

This makes one feel no more sleepy. This keeps awake. Hoc somnum prohibet (adimit).

I couldn’t sleep a wink last night. Hac nocte non quievi. Somnum non vidi. Nullam partem noctis requievi.

It was still night when I woke up. De nocte multa (concubia nocte) exsurrexi.

I have slept more than usual. Arctior quam solebat me somnus tenuit (complexus est).

Tomorrow I will sleep my fill. Crastina die somno me replebo.

To sleep until noon, until late morning. Ad multum diei (ad multam diem) dormire. Ad multam lucem stertere.

To stay awake until it’s very dark. Ad multam noctem vigilare.

He sleeps by day and stays awake at night. De die dormit et de nocte vigilat.

What time is it? Quota hora est? Hora quota est? Πενίκα ἐστὶ τῆς ἡμέρας; Ποῖόν ἐστι τὸ στοιχεῖον;

It’s nine and a half, a half past nine. Nona semis hora (est). Nona et dimidia.

It’s five to nine. Nοna demptis quinque minutis.

Salve, optime Francisce! Mihi videtur nos Anglice dicere it's five to nine, neque it's five for nine. Iterum vero gratias ago tibi ob pulchras tabulas tuas.

Vale!

Δοκεῖ δέ μοι ὅτι ἐν τῇ Βρεταννικῇ λέγομεν it's five to nine, οὐχὶ it's five for nine.

Franciscus Franmorarius Bedverio salutem plurimam.
Bedverie amice, vera dicis, ego enimvero peccavi. Mendum autem a me correctum nunc est.
Vide ut valeas.
