Your (least) favorite fiction books

Yes, this topic has been discussed before, but I don't think it's reached to the annoying point yet, has it?

I’m curious to know what kind of fiction you people digest (other than ancient Greek and Latin of course :)). Have your favorite works actually influenced your life? I need to really make a reading list of fiction work. I am embarrassingly way behind in the fiction ...

Latin DVDs?

Has anyone ever dubbed over a movie in Latin?
Have any movies ever been filmed in Latin?
I have books and audio clips, so I can read and listen. But I think watching people do things in Latin could really help.
Anyone know? Thanks.

Introducing myself

Having been lurking for a while, I have finally registered myself, and I should do the decent thing and say hello.

I am a lawyer in London. I learned Latin properly at high school (decades ago now), and retain an amateur interest in it, and in Roman law. I love Latin literature, and I go through periodic waves of deciding that I should read some some and mostly it comes back fairly well to me ...

News article (perhaps not "news" exactly) on Latin

At the Economist

It has the usual nonsense about the clarity and purity of Latin (whatever that might mean in a language), but is an interesting light diversion.

COPYRIGHTS- Save the whales! - uh er~ Save the Grammars!

I ran across this link today. Evidently there are forces of good working against the evil of the Sunny Bono Act. We can do something, hopefully, to gain access to a huge cache of copyrighted information if this movement picks up.

I was trying to translate a two word phrase from English to Latin. I looked up some resources and noticed that Latin is not that far off from Spanish. Anyway I need help figuring out how to translate this to Latin

Air Torus (or possibly how to say Torus of the Air, Torus made from Air...)

I found out that Air - of the air, high air is "Aerius"

Then torus is just Torus. ...

Latin quote of the day

The company I work for announced layoffs in our dept last week, and we lost three people who were longtime employees with lots of experience and knowledge. I thought this quote was appropriate:

Carpe diem, quam minimum credula a postero. (Horace)

(Our dept's new theme song is Limp Bizkit's 'Break Stuff' ... I guess I should mention that we went through round 1 of layoffs 3 ...

Latin or Greek? Hmm...

I have a simple question, which language do you think is harder, Latin or Greek? I’m sure this has been asked before so please forgive me if so.

I ask because I couldn’t restrain myself anymore the other day and I opened up A Greek Primer and read the first chapter. First there was the beginner’s hurdle: the alphabet. I didn’t have too much trouble with that because I have had past experience, and then ...
