moses maimonides greek translation?

Because the common English name of this philosopher has a greek patronymic suffix (Μαϊμων - ίδης), I was wondering if there were any translations of his works into medieval Greek or a high brow form of Kathereuousa?

Also is there a reason his name has commonly been hellenized instead of using a latin form?

"All I Want for Christmas is You" in Latin

Since many traditional Christmas carols are English adaptations of Latin songs (e.g. "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful" versus "Adeste Fideles"), I thought it might be interesting to turn the tables on that tradition and adapt a modern English yuletide tune into Latin. I think it would be especially fun to sing given how upbeat and decidedly contemporary in style this song is, thus subverting common expectations about the overall tone of practically anything sung in ...

Our own News in Greek (maybe in Latin too)

Χαίρετε πάντες φίλοι τῶν ἑλληνικῶν τε καὶ ῥωμαϊκῶν λόγων. The other day I was thinking about how to motivate myself to start writing in Greek, lest I grow rusty by only reading and never writing in the language; having tried a couple of Prose Composition textbooks, although no doubt useful as a teaching tool, I found the subject matter somewhat limited. So I thought to start here a thread whose purpose would be occasionally to ...

what makes a text hard/easy

Things that make a Greek text hard: low frequency words, rare forms of word both in the sense of less used tenses and in the sense of examples of more common cases/tenses that are highly irregular, long sentences, low frequency verbal forms, idioms.
However long sentences can be quite easy if the syntax is simple. A long description can be quite easy if is a mere list. Also high frequency words that have multiple meanings ...

CR's attempts at LPC

This is my first stab at Latin prose composition. Please do not shoot me. I would, however, appreciate constructive criticism.

LAVANTULA

Heri pelliculam nomine ''Lavantula'' spectavi. Re verâ fuit pellicula generis "B", sed satis delectabilis. Argumentum pelliculae? Angelopoli, urbe maximâ in Civitatibus Americae Unitis sitâ et hodiernis temporibus nomine "Los Angeles" (= ''Angeli'') notâ, statim eruptio novi vulcani fit. Vulcanus ille non solum lavam maximâ vi eructat sed etiam "lavantulas" sive "lavaraneas". Hae "lavantulae" ...

Gospel Of Thomas Re-translated

A while back I was trying to find out if someone had fleshed out the Oxyrinchus Papyrus and possibly re-translated the Gospel Of Thomas into Koine Greek from the Coptic.

Since I could find no attempts, I decided I would take up the remaining Oxyrinchus fragments that we have of the original Greek version and try and fill in the approximately 90 or so remaining Logion that are missing. Before I got too far into ...
