hi guys,<br /><br />does anyone know where i could get a simple list of homeric formulas (grouped by length and case, eg masculine caesura to end: nominative; masculine caesura to end: genitive; &c &c).<br /><br />I saw a few random tables throughout Milman Parry's papers a few months ago in the Uni of Sydney library, but that book is never in anymore, and I don't have a library card there... te occurs twice in line 13 of the Iliad but I can't translate them in a meaningfull way.<br />If there is no connection between the two, the second one may simply mean -and-;and bringing countless ransom.<br />And, also, both...and etc. does not make a whole lot of sence here. What is the meaning?

Parragraph 90, note 11. of Pharr has; to/n= (illum)<br />Pardon my ignorance but I have no idea what illum means and I failed to find it in the dictionary. Can someone tell me?

I am not sure of the correct translation of o)/x' a)/ristoi e)n )Ili/w| ta\ ei)=pon Pria/mw|, a)lla\ tou\j h)ti/masen.<br />-By far the bravest in Ilium told these things(? ta\)to Priam, but he dishonored them-.<br /><br />If there was a narative in which this was told, this sentence may make sence but on its own I am not sure enough of myself to consider this correct. I am about to start working my way through Pharr's -Homeric Greek-.<br />I read an article that strongly suggested to read Homer using the accents the way they were meant to be used, ie; pitch, not stress.<br />If this is the general opinion of the brains of this forum, is there a way (possibly a website) for me to know how much to rise and fall and how long to hold long and short vowels?<br ...

Is anyone familiar with this book willing to offer me an opinion of how good of a teaching tool it is? I'm trying to teach myself Greek (I have a strong Latin background) and want to make sure there isn't a better book.
