Iliad 2 graduates to Iliad 3.

The reading group Iliad 2 has almost comleted book 2 of the Iliad and some of us are continuing with book 3.
If any one is interested in joining us, this is the time to do it.
We can start in early November.

Confusion with conjugating ανεβην


In Lesson XI (p. 17), the vocabulary lists the principal parts of ἀναβαίνω as:

ἀναβαίνω, (βαν-, βα-), ἀναβήσω (ἀνα-βήσομαι), ἀνέβησα (ἀνέβην)

I'm unclear about what's in the parentheses following the future and aorist forms. Are they future and aorist exceptions to the regular conjugations or rarer conjugations? In the exercises (53.1), ἀνέβη is used as a 3rd person singular. This led me to wonder if they were using it to mean that ἀνέβη- could ...

I downloaded Pharr's Homeric Greek and have been trying to understand how it works. Could anyone ever tell me what the figures present in the paragraphs (see Lesson One, Introductory-1, ...501-508, 519-520 ETC) mean? Since there are no more than 391 pages in the booh, what are these references for? I would like to start learning Homeric Greek, a poem which has fascinated me for years. Handheldclassics!!! A reality?

Hi, everybody.

Stumbled on this site: www.handheldclassics.com and it’s absolutely amazing. Basically you can have the whole of Iliad and Odyssey on your palm PC along with the English translation. Fully parsed morphology of every word from Perseus plus basic translation of every word plus links to a greek dictionary.

Does this mean "good by Cunliff and the company" or am I wrong? Is the whole idea worth it? ...
