First Greek Writer Questions/Frustrations

Hello; I've been practicing my Greek composition (or rather, learning it) through Sidgwick's First Greek Writer. But I have a couple of issues/questions, particularly concerning the answer key.

1. It's quite often that the key uses vocabulary other than that given in the exercises. This is a minor annoyance, but wierd.

2. I'm having a hard time understanding the use of tis. The answer key seems to be using it as an indefinite article: that ...

Thrasymachus and Athenaze: What do you think?

What is your opinion of Thrasymachus: Greek Through Reading and Athenaze? From the little I've read about these texts, it seems like they are similar in format, i.e., teaching Greek by means of a story. I had never considered using a text like this, but after I read so many good things about Lingva Latina on the Latin Forum, and thinking that Thrasymachus or Athenaze might be similar in approach to it, I thought it ...

I'm using SPIonic, but it doesn't appear to be working.

I am using SPIonic, but when I paste it on a topic page, it gets all scrambled. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can anyone help me with this? I'm using SPIonic, but it doesn't appear to transfer well.

White A Group

The group has sort of faded away, however there is some interest in starting work again after Christmas. I am going to go back to the beginning and post some of the English to Greek exercises, if anyone has any comment on these it would be most welcome. At the moment I am having a few problem with the fonts, as this is the first time I have tried them:
Exercise 58 (page 13)
1 ...

Greek vocab email

Is there no Greek vocabulary email function? I only see latin.

If there isn't, what would be involved in creating one? (I would be happy to help if that is the only hold up).

Thanks,
Julian

Digamma--where?

Okay, the only place where I have ever seen a digamma is in the grammar books! I can't find it in Homer, not in Hesiod, inscriptions, anywhere!!

Can somebody please point me to a digamma in a real piece of literature, inscription, a picture, etc.?

Seeing is believing, and I'd really like to see one for myself.

Thanks.

Greek Fonts

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry this is taking me so long to get the fonts display resolved. I upgraded the forum right before the holiday and I have not had time to get back to it. It's the weekend in a few hours so I'll be working on the matter tonight.

Again, I'm very sorry.

Jeff
