Can anyone tell me why the answer key used eorum to translate their instead of the suus, a, um?

Imperfect endings for the verb veto


I discovered that veto (to forbid) is an irregular verb with the 2nd principal part being vetare and the perfect tense vetui.

Learning method and tricks

I have started with D'Ooge's Latin about six weeks ago and I went through about half the book already. However, I'm finding it a bit difficult to remember and use all the stuff I learned. I can read the Latin texts without any problems, but composing is quite difficult. And before you ask, no I did not skim over the material. Ex 111 Q 5

Hi all,

A query concerning a possible predicate adjective.

The Q is: Galba unus cum studio laborat

The answer given in the key is :

Galba works alone with zeal.

Is unus a predicate adjective in this instance and thus remains nominative in agreement with Galba even though it comes after the verb?


If a Q states: One is a dog, the OTHER is a cat

and another Q states One is a dog, ...

Answer key for Ex 95 Q4


I have a query about the answer given for this Question.

The Q is:

Pulchra est terra Italia

The answer given is: Beautiful is the land of Italy

Is Italy still in nominative case despite the answer being: "of Italy". Or is it a genitive case?

Ex 90 page 38 multi standing for many men ?


concerning Question 5 under Germania:

Multi Germanii in oppidis magnis et in vicis parvis habitant et multi sunt agricolae boni.

Is the second "multi" an instance of an adjective being used as a noun, in this case, meaning "many men" and since the men refers to Germanii, then it multi can stand alone as a noun thus arriving at the translation in your solution key "... and many are good farmers" Is this reasoning ...

Ex 95 Q2 finitimos

Hi all,

Thank you all for your efforts.

About this Q, the answer key gives:

... and the beautiful fields neighbouring the river.

If finitimos is an adjective, then why is the following word "river" given as fluvio in the question. Is fluvio dative or ablative case in this instance.
